Hebrews 1:1-4 NRSV: Long ago God spoke to our ancestors in many and various ways by the prophets, (2) but in these last days he has spoken to us by a Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, through whom he also created the worlds. (3) He is the reflection of God's glory and the exact imprint of God's very being, and he sustains all things by his powerful word. When he had made purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, (4) having become as much superior to angels as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs.
John 1:1-14 NRSV: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (2) He was in the beginning with God. (3) All things came into being through him, and without him not one thing came into being. What has come into being (4) in him was life, and the life was the light of all people. (5) The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it. (6) There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. (7) He came as a witness to testify to the light, so that all might believe through him. (8) He himself was not the light, but he came to testify to the light. (9) The true light, which enlightens everyone, was coming into the world. (10) He was in the world, and the world came into being through him; yet the world did not know him. (11) He came to what was his own, and his own people did not accept him. (12) But to all who received him, who believed in his name, he gave power to become children of God, (13) who were born, not of blood or of the will of the flesh or of the will of man, but of God. (14) And the Word became flesh and lived among us, and we have seen his glory, the glory as of a father's only son, full of grace and truth.
Isaiah 52:7-10 NRSV: How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of the messenger who announces peace, who brings good news, who announces salvation, who says to Zion, "Your God reigns." (8) Listen! Your sentinels lift up their voices, together they sing for joy; for in plain sight they see the return of the LORD to Zion. (9) Break forth together into singing, you ruins of Jerusalem; for the LORD has comforted his people, he has redeemed Jerusalem. (10) The LORD has bared his holy arm before the eyes of all the nations; and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God.
What makes beautiful feet? "The announcement of good news, salvation, peace and Your God reigns."
The good news is that God is incarnate in the man named Jesus. Incarnate — God embodied in flesh. Such great love he descended from heaven to walk like one of us. This is the God. Why would an immortal, the creator take on mortality? The love that He has for you personally and everyone one of us.
For we were doomed from the start. What do you do with a doomed race called humanity? God the righteous. God the Holy One. God that cannot allow sin to exist. But because He has given us free will sin is in our midst. Each of us is guilty. All of us have sin and stand in the presence of God to receive our just punishment. The seed of war and predator stain our hands. The blood of humanity is on our hands just because we were born a cursed race. Ever since Adam and Eve the curse has been laid on every person who shares in the blood of Adam and Eve. The race of Adam has fallen and are already dead in our sins. I have said before about the walking dead. They really do exist. If you have not taken Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior then you are dead and walking around. Again the question is asked what to do with the doomed race of humanity. There is nothing that humanity can do. We are all of the race of Adam. There is not anything that any of us can do with that.
Not only did Adam and Eve fall so did all creation. We see signs of destruction and sometimes nature seems to punish us for the curse that we have caused. In the Garden of Eden before the fall not one thing hurt another. There were no predators or prey. Creation because of the race of Adam has been cursed.
Since the race of Adam is cursed and doomed we needed to be part of a new family, a new Adam, a new blood line, born again.
1 Corinthians 15:20-22 NRSV: But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have died. (21) For since death came through a human being, the resurrection of the dead has also come through a human being; (22) for as all die in Adam, so all will be made alive in Christ.
1 Corinthians 15:45-46 NRSV: Thus it is written, "The first man, Adam, became a living being"; the last Adam became a life-giving spirit. (46) But it is not the spiritual that is first, but the physical, and then the spiritual.
God has offered to adopt you into the family of the Last Adam, Jesus Christ.
Romans 8:15-17 NRSV: For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received a spirit of adoption. When we cry, "Abba! Father!" (16) it is that very Spirit bearing witness with our spirit that we are children of God, (17) and if children, then heirs, heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ—if, in fact, we suffer with him so that we may also be glorified with him.
Romans 8:22-23 NRSV: We know that the whole creation has been groaning in labor pains until now; (23) and not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly while we wait for adoption, the redemption of our bodies.
God had to come down as flesh so that we can live. What can wash away my sin, nothing but the blood of Jesus. We had to have a new blood line. Jesus is our own natural brother.
In this family we have the bride of Christ, the church. The church is currently betrothed to Jesus Christ, her husband. And all who are part of the church, physically and spiritually will be saved.
Jesus saw first hand the ugliness that humanity can be: the politics, fights the disciples had with each other, religiosity (Doing things for religion sake but not Godly), bribes, violence, crucifixion and then God suffered death. Good news: Jesus Christ cannot be conquered by death. Jesus IS the Life, the truth and the way. Every one of us must experience physical death. Death is the last thing to be destroyed in the pit of hell. Even when Jesus Christ comes again for the millennial there will be death until the final consummation of the age. To be adopted and made part of God's family, to be part of the church, is a choice.
The adoption paper work has been filled. The price has been paid. We must die to ourselves for we are no longer our own. Even without Christ you are not your own. We were sold out by Adam and Eve to Satan as a race. Do you feel comfortable being owned by Satan? That is why Jesus had to come and be one of us and buy us back, redeem us. That is why we can sing "I have been redeemed"
I have a song I love to sing, Since I have been redeemed, Of my Redeemer, Savior king, Since I have been redeemed.
Since I have been redeemed;
To do His will my highest prize, Since I have been redeemed.
I have a witness bright and clear, Since I have been redeemed, Dispelling every doubt and fear, Since I have been redeemed.
I have a home prepared for me, Since I have been redeemed, Where I shall dwell eternally, Since I have been redeemed.
I have a joy I can't express,
Since I have been redeemed,
All through His blood and righteousness,
Since I have been redeemed.
Since I have been redeemed, Since I have been redeemed, I will glory in His name; Since I have been redeemed,
I will glory in the Savior's name. I have a Christ who satisfies
This is a new birth. Births are not easy, ask any woman that gave birth. If a child could remember being born it would not be a pleasant memory. Birth is hard on the mother and the baby. Names in the past were not given to babies until they were a few days old since deaths were so frequent for mother or child. Modern medicine has help alleviate this problem.
We are born again into the family of God. This is a painful process. All of creation groans with the expectation of rebirth.
Jesus said in John 3:6-7 NRSV: What is born of the flesh is flesh, and what is born of the Spirit is spirit. (7) Do not be astonished that I said to you, 'You must be born from above.'
We are born into a new family because Jesus became human and started a new family, the family of God.
How did God do this? How can Jesus be God and Human? This is part of the miracle and mystery that could not be done on our own. This is a God thing. How can we be reborn into the family of God? Again this is a God thing. God does give us a choice. Before we did not have a choice until Jesus came and lived, died and was resurrected. Because of what Jesus did you now have a choices. We have three choices to be part of God's family, don't choose or respond negatively. Salvation will come to all those in God's family who choose to be in God's family. God does not force one into His family. Some may call themselves Christian but never really took the step of being rebirth.
God became one with us to adopt us with a heavy price, the cross. Indeed we can sing "Joy to the World", "Good Christian Men Rejoice" and the music continues in our hearts.
On this day be joyful. Go tell it on the mountain be one with the beautiful feet. Praise the Lord!!
